Wedding DressesHappy New Year everyone! We finally got ourselves a real winter. It was so cold out today that when I took my dog out this afternoon, he gave me a look that clearly meant “you’ve got to be kidding me, lady”. But I hear it’s supposed to warm up a bit, just enough for you to get out there and enjoy the first weekend of 2014. There are a some fun things happening in Toronto this weekend. Everything from wedding planning to crazy, cool bikes and as always, plenty of food. Here’s my TOP5. Enjoy!

Canada’s Bridal Show – If you’re planning a wedding this year, Canada’s Bridal Show can help you get prepared. 350 exhibitors will be at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre this weekend to help you coordinate your special day. From flowers to cakes to DJs to The Dress, bring a list and see how many tasks you can check off. Brides of Beverly Hills star Kevin Lee will be there, plus you can win prizes including diamond rings.

MotorcycleMotorcycle Supershow – While the girls are planning the wedding, the boys can drool over heavy metal machines this weekend at The International Centre. There will be hundreds of exhibits, custom bike displays, 3 stages for entertainment, special guests, bands and fashion shows. Over 50,000 attendees are expected to make it out this weekend to shop for new and used bikes, helmets, leather, and other accessories, or maybe just pick up some free swag.

The Feast in the East – This is a monthly music, food, and installation series in, you guessed it, the East end. January’s edition features bands like Mimico, Bella Akira, New Fries, and also offers a free Japanese noodle bowl dinner by Daniel Goodbaum. So this Saturday go East, support the east end music scene, recoup from the holidays, and celebrate the first week of a new year in warm surroundings with good food.

Toronto Winter501 Streetcar Food Tour – What better way to spend a Sunday than on a streetcar? Ok, maybe there are better things to do on a regular Sunday. It’s just that this Sunday you can take part in the vastly popular 501 Streetcar Food Tour. Six stops and six tastings while streaming through countless iconic Toronto neighbourhoods sounds like a pretty great way to start 2014 to me.

Canada’s Top Ten Film Festival – Each year, TIFF polls filmmakers and other industry professionals and uses the results to make a list of the best Canadian features and shorts released during the previous year. 2013’s crop will be playing at the TIFF Bell Lightbox over the course of the next week. The festival will include screenings of each of the selected films that include Edward Burtynsky’s Watermark, Louise Archambault’s Gabrielle (Canada’s entry in the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar category) and Denis Villeneuve’s Enemy. And Sunday, TIFF will be hosting an In Conversation With…featuring Denis Villeneuve and Jake Gyllenhaal. That’s right, I said it.
